Unique Geological Features of Qing-Tibet Plateau:
The trip to Eastern Margin of Qing-Tibet Plateau passes through four "Golden Key" tectonic units: the songpan-Ganzi orogen, the Longmenshan thrust belt, the foreland basin, and the Xianshuihe fault belt. (A 1,000 km field trip)
The Roof of the World (Tibet) is an unique place for geological studies on the Earth. an area of 2.5 million km, a mean elevation of 4,500 m, and a crust thickness of over 70 km. It has the highest mountain and the largest canyon in the world. It is the frontier of continents tectonic and still geologically active. There are many interesting geological features and varieties of geological and geophysical issues to be discovered and understood.
