You
will pass through three tectonic - stratigraphic zones Z1, Z3, and Z4, and
there are about 12 stops to be observed.
You
will examine landscapes such as Lhasa River, Yamdok Tso Lake, Nojin Gangsang,
continental glacier, and plantation surface of the Tibet Plateau besides
geology.

Visiting
Balkhor Choten Monastery.
Then
you
will travel southward from Gyangze to Kangmar along the Gyangze-Yadong
road to investigate the metamorphic core complex in the northern Tethys
Himalaya.
After
lunch (picnic), you will going northeast about 10 km, to
see the olistoliths in Maastrichtian, and the red bed, the Chuangde
Formation in Campanian, Late Cretaceous.

Geological
stops through two tectonic zones are arranged. In the morning,
geology of Yarlung Zangbo suture zone is related in four stops.
Two
stops in the Xigaze Forearc basin along the Yalung Tsangpu River
in the afternoon.

| In
the morning, you have one stop to observe.
Then
you will across the Castle Ridge to the Monastery Ridge, and
decent to the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. For those interested in the western end
exposure of the Monastery Ridge, we will guide you there in the afternoon. For
not, they have afternoon free.

Visiting
two tectonic stratigraphic zones. Four stops in the Xigaze Forearc Zone (Z2), five stops
in the Yarlung Zangbo Suture Zone (Z3).
On the way, we will pass by the Younongla Pass, over 5000 m in
elevation.

I t
could be a hard day, although only two geological stops in the
northern Tibetan Tethys Himalaya Zone (Z4).
It
will be difficult to ride on the road at the southern slope of
Gyatsola Pass, which are over 5000 m in elevation. You can
check the Cretaceous and Jurassic dark-gray and black shale if you are lucky
and reach Tingri in the early afternoon.

This
will
be a memorable day, along the way you will enjoy not
only scenery of the Himalayan Mountains, but also of Mt. Everest.
You
will start
from the Qomolangma Hotel in the early morning, arrive to the
Longpu
Temple in the afternoon, and return to Tingri about the midnight.
Three stops to check the
two tectonic zones Z6 and Z5 on the route.
(You
may
remain at Longpu Temple for one or two more days when cloud or frog covers
the Mt. Everest at that time.)

will be a long day. Many stops are arranged.
The
successive
marine Phanerozoic (stratigraphy sequences and boundaries) in the southern
Tethys Himalayas (Z5), deformation and metamorphism of the crystalline
rocks in the High Himalayas (Z6) will be observed.
Along
the way, you will enjoy the scenery of Himalaya Mountains,
and the Xixabangma Peak. |
