Glaciers in Mt. K2 Range:
The Karakorum range sometimes is included in the Himalayas. Its Mt. K2 (8,611 m = 28,250 ft) is the second highest peak in the world. There are 4 peaks over 8,000 m and 15 peaks over 7,500 m in the Karakarum range. About 28 - 37% of Karakarum range is covered by glaciers.
Among 8 longest glaciers in the world, 6 of them were developed here. The Karakarum range is the crown of world's glaciers.
The Rose Glacier on its south side is well known as the largest one which has an area of 1,180 km2 (Nepal). However the mysteries of the glaciers on its north side are still waiting for world explorers. You will only be able to approach it by through the Tajla Makan Desert in Sinkiang Province of  China.. This is an extraordinary expedition and unforgettable life time experience.

What's special of this expedition?
To reach the magnificent Glaciers of Mt. K2 range is much more difficult than visit Mt. Everest. These beautiful glaciers keep its mysteries for million years and still waiting for scientists using modern technology to study it.

With the help of the host institution to arrange it as an International Cooperation Scientific Expedition Project, the Sinkiang Government will announce to all the government branches & military units in this region to ensure the safety and to help the expedition. It is important for the safety and success of this expedition.

Welcome world academic scientists to join this expedition as individuals or group (You may bring PhD student or assistant). The participants can make their own research plans for this expedition; they will be allowed to collect scientific samples from the expedition region and bring it back to home for further research and they can publish the results freely.

The Expedition Operating Institutions:
Sinkiang Geography Institute, Chinese Academy of Science.
Institute of  Mountain Hazards & Environment, Chinese Academy of Science.

SSEA (Sichuan Scientific Expedition Association
) - the most famous scientific expedition association in China.
CISE
(Center of International Science Exchange, China Academy of Science, Chengdu) - China Academy of Science is the top & largest science institution in China, with branches cover all scientific fields and in all provinces of China .

Gasherbrum Glacier of Mt. K2 Range

Among 8 longest glaciers in the world, 6 were developed here. The Karakarum range is the crown of world's glaciers.
However the mysteries of the glaciers on its north side are still waiting for world explorers.

The Gesherbrum Glacier is originated from two >8,000m peaks of the main ridge of Karakorum range. Its impressive ice pinnacles forest extend all the way from its terminus to 5,400m altitude, nearly 20 km in its horizontal distance. And numerous beautiful ice caverns, ice bridges etc.

You will only be able to approach it by through the Tajla Makan Desert in Sinkiang Province of  China. This expedition will be an extraordinary expedition and unforgettable life time experience.

Urdok  Glacier of Mt. K2 Range

On the 10 km long section from the terminus up to 4,600 m elevation, there are ice hummocks covered by superglacial moraine. Among these ice hummocks are many ice lakes.

An interesting phenomena is that when the ice-flows from the west joined the main ice-flow of Urdok Glacier, nearly all of them made a 180o turn (from SSE turned suddenly to NE).

moraine on the left side of
