SIKKIM
Small but
beautiful. Sikkim is situated in the Eastern himalayas spread below the world's
third highest
SIKKIM offers
her visitors a rare and singular experience. Within a matter of hour one can
move from its sub-tropical heat of the lower valleys to the cold of the rigged
mountains slopes that reach up to the areas of perpetual snow.
Sikkim's
botanical and geological affluence is truly impressive. The varieties of birds
and butterflies in Sikkim is matched only by incredible diversity in the animal
and botanical world, nourished by unique dramatic geographical features. The
lower altitudes are sub-tropical and abound in some of Sikkim's more than 600
hundred Orchid varities, sprays of Cardamom, fruits orchards and terraced rice
paddies. To the Lepchas - this was " Nye Mae-El "(Paradise) , to the
Bhutias it is , " Beymul Denzong" (The Hidden Valley of Rice). Sikkim
is commonly attributed to the Tsong word "Sukhim' meaning (New or Happy
Home).

Pashupatinath Temple (Hindusm: Lord Shiva-Parvati) Durbar
square, Swoyambhunath and Boudhanath (Buddhist shrines)

Pashupati
temple: The temple has two-tiered golden roof & silver doors anexuisite
architecture. It is the historic seat of royalty. The Durbar with its old temples and places epitomizes the religious and cultural life of people. Swoyambhunath/ Boudhanath (Buddhist temple): It is said to be 2000 years old and tourist often call it the "Monkey temple". The main structure of made of a solid hemisphere of brick and clay supporting aloft conical spire can capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. Boudhanath is also likely the same, colossal and ancient Stupa is one of the biggest in the world. It is believed that has been built by Lichchhavi King Mana Dev in the fifth century A.D. |

| Pick up from the Bhadrapur airport or Kakarvitta and drive to Darjeeling | Darjeeling popularly known as the mountains

Darjeeling is a special place for any visitor. From the plains of India the road rises up gradually through the evergreen tea plantations unequalled by any other tea producers of the world. The local residents in colorful costumes, balancing on the sloppy terraced plantations busy choosing to pluck the best pulp tea. During the clear weather good photographs can be taken with the famous “ TOY TRAIN” of Darjeeling, when it Zig Zags through the mountain ridges. Phuntsholing, popularly known as the gateway to Bhutan. Phuntsholing is a vibrant town located adjacent to the Indian Border town of Jalpaiguri, a distict of theIndian state of West Bengal. The town is a bustling commercial centre providing a glimpse of Indian merchants in their particular attire and Bhutanese in National dress. | |

| After early breakfast in the morning, drive to Thimphu which is 180 km. Visit Kharbandi Monastery | Monastery just about 5 kilometres on the way built by the Royal Grand Mother in 1967. There is a Beautiful garden near the monastery and the views of the plain is spectacular from here. The journey begins on the first road built in Bhutan as you ascend from the plains of Phuntsholing. The weather cools as you climb up further North climbing the endlessly mountains, entering into the Himalayas of Bhutan. | |

| As you reach Thimphu, the Capital you will have a short sightseeing to the places such as Memorial Stupa and Dechen Phodrang, the site of Thimphu’s original Dzong (fortress). | ).
It is now the state monastic school where you will see lot of small little
monks Opportunity to visit with some of the monks and observe life within
the monastery. In the old days, the oldest son of every family was offered
to a monastery where the child grew up as a monk.
Even now, it is not uncommon for some families to continue the practice. |

to Visit Zilukha nunnery monastery founded by Tibetan Saint Thangthong

Drive up to the broadcasting tower to view the whole town see the endangered rare species of animal in the world known as Takin, the National animal of Bhutan. Visit
the Handicrafts Emporium Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still practiced through the instructions in the art of painting Thangkas (sacred Buddhist scrolls). |

| After lunch visit National Library, Traditional Handmade paper factory and Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress built in 1629. | ||

| Day 18 | THIMPHU - BUMTHANG | |
| After
early breakfast, drive to Bumthang. Today your journey is quite long
crossing three passes on the way.
The first stop Dochu-la pass (3150mts). Stop for a while for refreshment at the cafe and see the spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayan ranges. Visit Punakha Dzong ont the way, the capital of Bhutan until 1955. |
The road passes first through temperate leafy forest with lot of Rhododendrons and Magnolias trees, then finally descend down to a semi tropical zone where Orange’s trees, Banana trees and cactuses are found in abundance. | |
| Again
drive another 6 hours with the Picnic Lunch at Chendbji Stupa, a nice spot
for lunch and a good place for resting.
Stop for a while at Trongsa Town for a Tea and snacks. |
Trongsa in the central Bhutan is the ancestral home of present Royal family and Dzong is one of the most beautiful Dzongs in Bhutan. | |

Bumthang lies at the altitude of 2580m is broad and flat valley. | |

| visit
to some of the oldest monasteries built in the 7th century, by Tibetan
King Songtsen Gampo. One of the 108 temples built by him throughout Tibet
and the Himalayas to overcome a demon giantess.
Visit to the important Buddhist monasteries like Kurje Lhakhang, Tamshing Monastery, Konchosum Lhakhang and Lamae Gompa. |

| Late afternoon, a stroll around town and visit the Swiss cheese factory and a local farm house to try the famous buckwheat noodles and the buckwheat pancake, a staple food of Bumthang. | ||

breakfast and make a return journey towards Thimphu which takes a almost
10 hours including a picnic lunch stop on the way and tea/coffee stop at

| Drive
early morning to Paro and visit Drugyel Dzong (ruin fort) towards the
north . You can also see the spectacular view of scared mountain " Mount Jomolhari", the mountain of Goddess (24,000ft) from there. On the way back visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse and see the real Bhutanese way of life and also taste some typical Bhutanese food. |
Although in ruins, this Dzong was once a great historical importance. It was from here that the Bhutanese finally commemorate the victory of Bhutan over Tibetan invasions. | |
| Afternoon
visit Ta Dzong, the national Museum of Bhutan located on a hill above the
Paro Dzong over looking the Paro valley and Dzong.
Visit the Dzong, the massive fortress in Paro valley and is approached by a gently sloping flagstone road and a beautiful covered wooden bridge. The central tower (Utse) of the Dzong, with its superb woodwork, is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan. This Dzong was built in 1645 AD. |
Today the Dzong is the administrative seat of the district of Paro, and it also contains a state monastic community of approximately 200 monks. | |

30 each for the first 60 days.
FOR INDIA /(Sikkim) : In advance you can have visa for India from Indian high commission office at your country. Sikkim now is a state of India.
FOR BHUTAN: In advance, you can have visa for Bhutan from Bhutan high commission office at your country.
