(By  Lui Li,

13 Aug. 2000

Weather: raining to sunshine.

A whole night heavy raining, everything was wet, Tents, sleeping bags, beds and clothes . . . The water level of Nu river raised significantly, its yellow waves running faster and faster.

From the map we knew that today we'll have to through the largest canyon in this Expedition.

In the morning, Peter called our Tibetan guide Dawan, explained to him how to do the emergency rescue and required to make sure all the protection equipments should be ready-to-go.

Captain Michael became serious too, he asked me to check all the rescue equipments.

Our boats just entered the river, it run down on the waves like wild horses. I suddenly saw a huge rock in front of us,
"Rock!" I shouted to remind Mike. He already forced the boat turning, just beside the rock flying passed it.

My Goodness, we passed one by one, the sharp rocky walls  the dangerous rocks, the mad waves of the river . . . It seems never ended.

Facing the canyon challenge.

Fighting in the canyon
The river turned, we entered the canyon already. The stormy sound of the river almost covered our voice, The mountains rocks of both side of the river were so closely showing their terrible shapes. The 100 meters width of the river was forced into 20 - 30 meters only. The waves rising as high as over 2 meters. each wave threw tons of water full of the boat.

Fighting with the wild river for a whole day, finally we thorough the canyon safely.

When we arrived a calm place, it was dark already.

Extremely exhausted, we ate some food, then laid down on the grass.

The raining was stopped, I looked at the sky, the moon appeared very bright, the stars were so nearby, I saw the seven stars the first time such clearness in my whole life.
