Who is Joseph Rock?
Joseph F. Rock, a famous American Adventurer & Botanist. He lived in Tibetan
areas in China from 1920's to 1949. He was the Leader of the US National Geographic
Society Yunan-Sichuan Expedition 1927-1930. The author of "Seeking the Mountains of
Mystery", "Life among the Lamas of Choni", "Through the Great River
Trenches of Asia" etc articles & photos in the National Geographic Magazine
in the 1930's. He collected a large amount of plants and insects specimens fro US
Agriculture Department and Botanical Garden.

| After Tianquan, you reached the eastern side of Mt. Erlang . A rich botanical region, >1,000 plants grow here. | From bottom to the top of the Mountain, there are different forest zones. Between 1,500 - 1,800 m, the famous Davidia tree was discovered by a French vicar David in 1868, and brought to west by Ernest Wilson. From April to June >20 species of Azalea flowering with multi-colours; The Red Tree-Azalea flowering on the high Abies tree is a wnderful scene. | |

Gongga Mt. Gongga is the highest mountain in Sichuan (7,556m). Surounded by dozens 6,000m mountains, it is a splendid view. |
During 1928 - 1930, Rock reached Mt. Gongga and investigated its glaciers. His Mt. Gongga adventure and photo was published on the US National Geographic Magazine. | |

| Visit Lidan Dajin Temple. | Lidan is one of the highedt city in the world (4,100m). It is surrounded by Grassy high plains. In August, Horse Racing Festival is an attractive event. | |

| Visit Mt. Sea's
Son Nature Reserve. Once stepped into it, you feel the space frozen, the time stopped. Your can feel the remoteness and vastness of the Universe which appears in its most primitive looks. |
Mt. Sea's Son with an altitude of 3,600 - 5,000m, is the largest remnants of glaciation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With its glacial erosion topography fullt developed, there are 1145 lakes in an area of 3,200 sq.km. It is the most important base for the study of the topography of Quarternary glaciers. Fossils of Dinosaur and Eucalyptus were discovered here in 1982. | |

| Day 9 (Mon.) | Visit Agriculture protection system, Mt. Echu, Jinzhu Town, Gongling Temple | DaoCity has a
long hidtory and splendid culture. Its Tibetan houses were built by stones,
decorated with colorful wood windows. There are 13 Temples. Rock entered DaiCity & Yadin area twice in 1928-1930. His adventure was published on US National Geographic Magazine in 1931. |

| Visit Chonggu Temple, Holy land - 3 Goddess Peaks (Mt. Xiannairi (6032m), Mt. Yangmaiyong (5958m) , Mt. Xiaruoduoji (5958m)). | Yadin 3 Goddess
Peaks is the Holyland of Tibetan people. It also been called the "Last
Heaven". The 3 snow Peaks, the large areas of primitive forests ( Abies, Picea,
Larix, Quercus etc), the wide valleys and grassy plains formed a picture. |
